What will you do?
Your mornings will normally be spent helping doing practical renovation work at a poor local deaf school. Our volunteers have gradually refurbished classrooms, dormitories and playgrounds at several local deaf schools around Sri Lanka, greatly improving the lives of local D/deaf students.
You don't need any previous experience, work is allocated according to volunteers' preferences and skills and we provide all materials and guidance.
Your afternoons will normally be spent doing a mix of activities including:
- Sri Lankan sign language class
- Cooking class (learn how to make tasty local food!)
- Visits to enchanting Buddhist and Hindu temples
- Explore markets - learn about tropical fruits and vegetables
- Wander along unspoilt sandy beaches
- Visit the capital city, Colombo
- Walk along Dutch canals and the fishing harbour of Negombo
- See how tea is made up in the mountains!
- Relax by a swimming pool
And at the weekend you will:
- Work with sea turtles for a day
- Discover Temple of the Tooth in Kandy
- Visit an elephant orphanage
We fit a huge amount into your trip (and this is all included - no nasty surprises after arriving!) but it's all carefully planned so nothing ever feels a rush and you always have time to relax and ask our friendly staff all about the various places we visit.
