There are lots of rewarding programs where you can work alongside local teachers and help lead educational and English lessons in schools. You will be able to make a positive impact on local communities and children, they love learning and will be keen to learn more about you and your native country.
There are public and private schools in places like Palampur which need assistance from international volunteers all year round, you will be working and helping children aged between the ages of 6 and 13 and be able to help with general classroom activities and lessons. Sometimes you might be helping the children practise their English language skills. Other lessons you might be helping with include sports, art, music, maths, science and geography.
If you have any previous experience this is welcomed but you do not need to be a teacher in your home country to apply. On placements you will be given more information and training, also you will be working with other international volunteers. Placements are very safe and India is a great country to live in and travel around. One of the main aims of this program is to create a enjoyable environment for the children to learn in, they will also be a really fun experience for you.
Every day will be different and usually you will teach and work around 5 hours per day sometimes by yourself or with a large classroom. You will be encouraged to create your own games and bring your own ideas to the classroom, and you might even want to learn some of the local language.
