These schools agreed to provide food and accommodation to volunteers in exchange for their teaching in the classroom 3-4 hours per day.
Though we taught very poor students in the most remote provinces of Thailand, homestays were quite comfortable. Volunteers got a Western style house, a proper bed, bathroom, and three fine Thai meals a day. participants either lived with a Thai family or had their own house in the community. Indeed, one reason Volunthai was so successful is because the Thais took such good care of their guests.
Unlike other volunteer programs, Volunthai did not pay the schools or host families to take care of you. They did it to help students and because they trusted us to choose attractive and likeable volunteers for them. It is important to understand that Volunthai wasn’t a sophisticated international organization, but simply a close network of schools that we knew personally and wished to help.
Volunthai are no longer operating.
