This country has some of the worst poverty in the world but there are local NGO's and international charitiies working to improve living conditions and standards for local people. There have been improvements to education and healthcare facilities in recent decades but there is still a lot of work which needs to be done. Many people still live in poverty and some children to not have access to a education which is often taken for granted in other countries. Types of Programs

There are lots of ways to make a difference including joining teaching and community development projects. This country has a population of around 2 million people and many of these live in poverty. Joining a project in this destinations will let you experience the true Gambia community spirit and culture and this will be like nothing else you have ever done before. You will really help communities in need and be able to assist local teachers with their long term goals of improving infrastructure and education standards. You can find work at schools and community projects where you can help daily activities like sports lessons, teaching English or helping with making food etc. 

On educational and teaching volunteer placements you will be able to share your creativity and enthusiasm with underprivileged students. Make a difference by teaching in Africa. Teaching English in Gambia can be a really amazing experience, even though the children won't understand a lot of the English language they are very eager to learn and will be facsinated by you.  Placements can be in rural villages where schools lack funds, this can be both a challenging and rewarding experience.
